About
Nikki Chen is a current final year pharmacy student at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. She completed her pre-requisites at the University of South Carolina Honors College and received her BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences in May 2022.
Nikki's current interests in the realm of pharmacy include pharmaceutical industry and pharmaceutical legislation/advocacy.
Some highlights of her involvement include founding the Industry Pharmacists Organization at USC for the 2022-2023 academic year as well as serving as a Junior Board Member for the South Carolina Pharmacy Association. Outside of pharmacy, she loves playing the guitar and attending concerts, musicals, and traveling when she gets the chance! With first generation immigrant parents from Taiwan, she always loves going back to explore Taiwan and visit relatives over the summer.

Through her interest in regulatory affairs, Nikki wanted to pursue a research project that involved the FDA database for adverse drug event reporting to provide a pharmacovigilance analysis. Due to various tests in treatments, Nikki looked into ivermectin to see which of the reported experienced adverse events were statistically and clinically significant. Under Dr. Chengwen Teng, Nikki learned about the type of data that is accessible from the FDA Adverse Reporting System (FAERS) as well as specific incorporation of statistical analysis for clinical use.
2022 Gordon Research Conference on Drug Safety Research Poster
*Click above to see full poster. After her initial project with Dr. Chengwen Teng, Dr. Teng reached out about interest in the Gordon Research Conference for Drug Safety (GRC) held every 4 years. Researching antibiotic's association with thrombocytopenia utilizing the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System. The poster was presented at GRC in June 2022 at Easton, Massachusetts as well as SCSHP 2023 in North Charleston, South Carolina.
